Bensham Grove has provided the community with Adult Education opportunities since the 1920s. The Centre is an English Heritage Grade 2-listed building bequeathed by Elizabeth Spence Watson in 919 Elizabeth Spence Watson. In 1948, the former Spence Watson house was handed over to Gateshead Council as a venue for Adult Education.

Bensham Grove Community Centre will be open for visitors to find out from volunteer guides about the beautiful listed building and the people who have visited.
There will be music in the garden (indoors in poor weather) from Beatroot Jam, spectacular Raku ceramic firing and the opportunity to try glass and other types of painting.
New for 2023 - Gateshead Community Bridge Builders are launching their Human Library project, linking storytellers and community members. The Human Library is designed to gently start conversations to challenge stereotypes and prejudices. Come along to explore the fascinating world of the people living and working around you.
