We welcome you to take a tour of the Tyneside Cinema. When this building opened in 1937 it was Newcastle’s very first news theatre. For years thousands of people came here to catch a glimpse of current events, in the form of newsreels. 85 years later, it is the only surviving newsreel cinema in Britain that still operates as a cinema. Dedicated to screening the best new releases from the UK and beyond, we’re proud to be the home of great film in the North East and the region’s leading independent cinema.
